  i worked with a group of talented taiwanese designers teaching them textiles print techniques over a week exchange in 2012 at london printworks trust.  hsu chiu-i is a fashion designer who works with indigo, using it to dying and hand paint her fabrics.  we wanted to capture this kind of mark making using hand painting and screen printing techniques. creating textiles that had an organic patternation and hand dyed feel. hsu chiu-i manipulated her fabric with devoré and pleating to give body and depth to her prints:

a call to competition, design a handkerchief to be exhibited and sold at the london printworks trust brixton. a great opportunity to get messy, start drawing and get printing. established with beautiful designs like the rabbit themed one above, illustrated by artist in residence sophie herxheimer. so send in your design by september 30th, more details on the ltp blog.

a great project i worked on at the london print works trust for a royal wedding come dine with me special. specially commissioned table cloths for a caribbean style brixton street party.

end of the year

i have been busy production printing for what seems like forever. it is hard work but the reward of seeing lengths and lengths of hand printed fabric is still worth every broken nail. here are my favorite backing cloth pictures from 2010:

i am excited to see the fourth plinth installation by artist yinka shonibare especially as i have good friends who have worked on it! The ship was constructed at mdm props ltd where they make various work for artists and museums. the african print sails which adorn the ship were printed in brixton at the london printworks trust where i use the same studio. shonibare is known for using african print textiles in his work, often juxtaposed with references to western art history and european literature.
