south of the river
i would say with out doubt the most amazing, unexpected and beautiful exhibition of last year was seizure. not so much exhibition but natural intervention, taking place in a condemned block of flats near elephant and castle. an infestation of copper sulphate crystal orchestrated by artist roger hiorns. the resulting patterns of crystal covered every surface leaving the rooms with an intense yves klein-esque blue glow. if you didn't manage to make it get hiorns book detailing all the planning and prep that went into the work and including some stunning photos.

queen of baroque
last year i worked for the amazing furniture designer oriel harwood. a team of us (talented artists, painters, and sculptors) were brought together to work on her most recent exhibition which showed at david gill galleries. i was lucky enough to be involved with all the stages of her process. starting with preliminary designs, clay sculpting, mould making, resin casting, painting, gilding and sanding!
here are a selection of the pieces that i worked on:

the city where your dreamling is re-paid
Andrew Motion:
O travellers from somewhere else to here
Rising from Sheffield Station and Sheaf Square
To wander through the labyrinths of air,
Pause now, and let the sight of this sheer cliff
Become a priming-place which lifts you off
To speculate
What if..?
What if..?
What if..?
Cloud shadows drag their hands across the white;
Rain prints the sudden darkness of its weight;
Sun falls and leaves the bleaching evidence of light.
Your thoughts are like this too: as fixed as words
Set down to decorate a blank facade
And yet, as words are too, all soon transferred
To greet and understand what lies ahead -
The city where your dreamling is re-paid,
The lives which wait unseen as yet, unread.
